Janine Jansen on the different sounds of Stradivari

Last summer, I had the thrill of hearing superstar violinist Janine Jansen play the Sibelius violin concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. The way her sound—vibrant and intense and yet nuanced—filled the room was something I will never forget.

Jansen plays a Stradivari (on loan from a benefactor). And she may be one of few people to ever play and record on more than a dozen different Stradivari -- as outlined in the documentary, "Janine Jansen: Falling for Stradivari," which is newly available to rent online.

In the film, she explains how her Stradivari "is her voice" and how each instrument expresses a different variety of colors, and how the musician seeks to find those colors and bring them out. In getting to play the variety of Stradivari, she details how they are different and how each suits a different style of playing and music.  Highly recommended viewing for any Strumenti patron-investor!
